26th Congressional District - Partnership Evaluation

In the 26th Congressional District, Chris Lee is running on a pro-business platform that is virtually in lockstep with the Partnership's federal agenda. As a business owner, he understands firsthand how government mandates impact businesses of all sizes, and he believes strongly that when it comes to requirements regarding paid leave, healthcare and other labor matters, businesses should be making decisions on their own about how to create a competitive and attractive workplace, not reacting to federal dictates. Further, he understands the challenges employers in our region can face recruiting top talent, and supports UB2020, reform of the U.S. immigration system (including exempting H-1B from caps) and improvements to the Workforce Investment Act as mechanisms to enhance the local workforce.

Alice Kryzan, also a candidate for the 26th CD, is a retired attorney. She will be running on the Democratic & Working Families lines. This is her first time seeking public office. She states that her top priorities are extending the production tax credit and increasing investment in alternative energy projects in Western New York, implementing the Great Lakes environmental plan and reforming health care to increase coverage and reduce costs. She would like to serve on the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming and the Ways & Means Subcommittee on Health.

Ms. Kryzan states that the top issues facing employers in the district are the high costs of energy and healthcare that make it difficult for businesses to remain competitive.

On the questionnaire, Ms. Kryzan was not in-line with the Partnership on 12 of the 21 position questions, including business tax cuts, requiring employers to provide health insurance for employees, tort reform and card check.

She believes that employers should support her campaign because she is an independent thinker and she will be positioned to deliver for Western New York.

The Partnership endorses Chris Lee in the 26th Congressional District.
