Thanks for Helping; Taylor Changes Vetoed

Last week, Buffalo Niagara employers and taxpayers scored an important victory, as Governor George Pataki vetoed one of the most onerous pieces of state legislation we’ve seen (A.6222 and S.3178).  The legislation called for changes to the Taylor Law that would’ve handed public employee unions tremendous bargaining leverage at taxpayers’ expense by incentivizing negotiations impasses.

If you remember, these bills were passed in the waning hours of the state legislature’s session with only one dissenting vote in the entire state (and no dissenting votes from the WNY delegation) – and without much discussion, much less public input. In a letter dated June 26, the Partnership urged the Governor to veto this legislation.

Thanks to all of our members who utilized the Partnership’s new VoterVoice technology on the Partnership’s web site to urge the governor’s veto of these bills. Collectively, we sent a clear message that this legislation would be harmful to our community. Look for more VoterVoice advocacy campaigns to kick off as our various local governmental bodies return from summer recess.

Thanks again for your help on this matter.
