Partnership ABC’s
September, 2010

Advocacy

While downstate opposition to approve the legislation needed to make UB2020 a reality proved insurmountable this year, another of the Partnership's top advocacy priorities was achieved with the passage of "proceeds" legislation, which was signed by Governor Paterson on
August 30. This legislation creates the Western New York Economic Development Fund to allocate funds derived from the sale of unallocated expansion power and replacement power through the New York Power Authority to economic development initiatives within 30 miles of the Niagara Power Project - potentially $10 to $25 million per year.

On August 30, Unshackle Upstate released its scorecards for State Senate and Assembly candidates - a resource for voters heading into Primary (9/14) and General Election (11/2) Day. The scorecards highlight legislators' actions on state issues of importance to Upstate employers. Unshackle Upstate is currently also conducting candidate interviews in key Senate races throughout Upstate - the Partnership and our Unshackle partners continue to implement an aggressive political agenda in 2010 to ensure that Upstate employers' collective voice is heard in Albany. On September 16, please join us at our fundraiser for Assemblyman Jack Quinn, who is running for NYS Senate in the 58th District.

Please visit the Partnership's policy website for other advocacy positions and actions, and the Partnership blog for up-to-the-minute updates.
