2022 D&I Symposium: Meet Claudine Ewing, Moderator

The BNP is pleased to welcome Claudine Ewing, Reporter/Anchor at WGRZ-TV as a moderator at our 2022 D&I Symposium: DEI at Work.

Bio:

Claudine’s professional career started immediately after graduating from Buffalo State College. She worked in Radio News covering Western New York and Southern Ontario. 

Her life motto is “Expect nothing, appreciate everything, keep grinding!” 

In 2019, Claudine won a New York State Emmy and NYS Associated Press Award. 

Claudine earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism with Honors. In 2004, she received the Young Alumnus Achievement Award from her college alma mater. 

Over the years, Claudine has won numerous awards and has been nominated and recognized for her work in Journalism. 

In 2017, she won for a story on child she followed from a premature birth until she graduated from high school, called Preemie goes to College. In 2015, Claudine received Special Mention by the New York State Associated Press for General Excellence in Individual Reporting. In 2014, Claudine won a national award from the NABJ for a sports story The Smart Football Scholar. A story on the rise of Penn State graduate John Urschel who joined the NFL. 

Claudine has earned severalawards from the Associated Press for special news series and breaking news. She has also been nominated for New York State Emmy Awards. 

Some of Claudine’s memorable stories include revealing to the world that there was a female limbo performer worthy of the Guinness Record. Her story helped make a young girl’s dream come true. Claudine also reported on a family’s mission to have tougher state penalties for repeat child abusers. She followed the case to Albany and now there is Jay J’s law, named after an abused child. 

In 1999, Claudine’s alma mater, Buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts, awarded her with their annual Excellence in Broadcasting Award.  She has been honored in the past with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s ”Outstanding Community Service Award”. 

Claudine is a member of the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists, the National Association for Black Journalists. She also serves on the Buffalo State College Alumni Association Board, The TEGNA Foundation and For Our Daughters. 

Claudine enjoys Bible reading, traveling across the world, live music, sporting events and spending time with family.   

2022 D&I Symposium Presentation: 5.14 Community Response Panel

We recognize that our community is still healing from the atrocity on May 14th, and we could not host any event – especially one addressing DE&I, without acknowledging this travesty. 

We’ve added a special 1 hour opening panel session at 9:30am to allow for an open discussion on where we go from here as a community. 

Moderated by WGRZ-TV’s award winning Reporter/Anchor Claudine Ewing, this panel brings together some of Buffalo’s most recognized community champions to discuss “What’s Next”. This is an opportunity for the advocates working within the community to speak to the private sector about the needs of our East Buffalo community.

Our 5th Annual Diversity & Inclusion Symposium will feature national experts on D&I sharing their knowledge on subjects such as building an inclusive culture, and the best practices, cultural assessments, and dimensions of diversity.

KEYNOTE: Melissa Donaldson, Chief Diversity Officer, Wintrust.

This event will feature workshops and break-out sessions with actionable next steps for attendees to take away.
