Employ Buffalo Niagara Coalition

Started in 2015, the Employ Buffalo Niagara Coalition, is an employer-led initiative that brings the private and public sectors, education and training partners, and workforce intermediaries together to share their employment challenges, and find solutions that address barriers to economic mobility for the under and unemployed in our region.

The Community Coalition is focused on three main areas:
  1. Access and transportation – How to solve public transportation barriers, address first/last-mile needs, and help employers work together to pool costs of shared private transportation.
  2. Career awareness - How to better educate job seekers about existing in-demand opportunities, help employers articulate viable career pathways to both prospective and current employees, and reduce employers’ high turnover costs.  Learn now regional employer are building their talent pipeline through attraction, retention and promotion as part of BNP’s Career Pathways initiative.
  3. Economic Mobility – How to help the region’s underemployed and unemployed connect with meaningful careers and cross the bridge to economic prosperity.  As part of these efforts, we have created two dynamic tools to help employees, employes, and the workforce system at large create more economic mobility in our region.
    • Benefits Cliff Calculator:   Employees, employers, and workforce entities can plug in current benefits and potential income increases to gain a better understanding of how employees can thrive, businesses can promote their promising talent, and all of our neighbors can be carried toward financial security and independence. The tool also helps the public sector understand the urgent need for policy changes to lessen the impact of the Benefits Cliff moving forward.
    • HR Toolkit:  This interactive tool is a go-to source of vetted HR policies that are designed to retain employees and help them advance in your company.  The HR Toolkit helps employers match a workplace concern to a series of HR policies and assistance recommendations designed to support the advancement of the underemployed, promote the building of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, and align company culture goals with human resource practices.
